Introduction: Fundraising and Neoliberalization in Canada

Abstract In this chapter, I introduce the idea that professional fundraising is, in words of one Canadian fundraiser, a “business hope.” argue successful careers provide lens for understanding Canada’s neoliberalization. However, to avoid reducing neoliberalism broad abstraction, make three commitments book: first, show meaning through fundraisers’ perspectives and policy context their late 1990s early 2000s; second, contrast with shape welfare state came before; third, take dual political-economic cultural theoretical approach, holding be both economic doctrine governing rationality, revealing neoliberal change structural cultural.
